Arroyo camp to protest loss to Ruenroeng
PR Best Boxing Promotions, promoter of the flyweight contender McWilliams Arroyo, will submit a formal protest to the International Boxing Federation (IBF) regarding his split decision defeat against the 112lb IBF champion Amnat Ruenroeng this morning in Thailand. Peter Rivera, Vice-President of PRBBP, said that in the protest will demand an immediate rematch between Arroyo (15-2, 13 KOs) and Ruenroeng (14-0, 5 KOs), who won a close decision over Arroyo by scores of 115-114, 114 -113 for him and 114-113 for Arroyo. We will file a formal protest to the IBF because the outcome of the fight could have been different if the referee (Pat Russell) would have acted differently and not let the fight out of his hands, Rivera said. We will demand an immediate rematch before the end of the year.
During the fight, Arroyo dropped Ruenroeng in round six. But Ruenroeng was holding the entire fight and sent Arroyo to the canvas several times, always holding and pushing him. I think the fight got out of the hands to the referee. He (Russell) warned Ruenroeng several times, but did not deduct points for holding and pushing, added Rivera. Also (Russell) stopped the action in several rounds before the three minutes.
Meanwhile, Arroyo, who lost for the second time in his career, showed his displeasure for not winning the title, but also said that he is determined to achieve his dream of becoming world champion. Im a little sad because I could not get the win, but Im positive and ready to continue my career and fulfill my dream of becoming world champion, said Arroyo. We did everything I could, but my opponent was holding and pushing all the fight.
