Trio of southpaws helped hone Sinyabi

NICK Durandt is confident South African junior featherweight champion Macbute "Macman" Sinyabi will beat Thangthong Kiattaweesuk.


Sinyabi faces the Thai boxer in an International Boxing Federation junior featherweight elimination bout in Bangkok on Friday.


While preparing for the fight, Sinyabi had sparring sessions with stablemates Evans Mbamba, Vusi Malinga and Zolani Tete.


Durandt said they decided that Sinyabi should spar with the trio as they are all southpaws, just like Kiattaweesuk.


"Macman has had very good sparring sessions with Evans, Vusi and Zolani. Evans and Vusi have what I expect from the Thai fighter while Zolani's amazing hand speed is exactly what we think Kiattaweesuk will come up with during the fight," said Durandt.


He said the Mdantsane-born boxer is in good company, something that he believes will help the boxer on Friday.


"This is not the first time I visit Thailand. Macman is with experienced people here and we all know for a fact that the size of the ring is the same everywhere in the world, so we are not afraid of anything," said Durandt.


"We have done a lot of training for this fight and I know what to expect of the other side. Macman is a star in the making and my job is to keep him in good shape and make him realise his dream. We are going to win this one."


The 25-year-old Sinyabi met his opponent for the fist time on Sunday and exchanged greetings.


Sinyabi left for Thailand on Friday with Durandt and the trainer's son, Damien, who is also an assistant trainer.


The winner between the two knockout artists will challenge for the IBF junior featherweight title, which is currently held by Jeffrey Mathebula, who is Sinyabi's stablemate at Durandt's gym.
